“Tomorrow Void” Storyboard Illustrations for Blue Cross Blue Shield
This storyboard is one of many that I have created for Blue Cross Blue Shield. The client tests these storyboards in focus groups, so I make them a photo-real as possible to help them score well.
I’ve created enough storyboards for Merge Creative Director Colin Quinn that he trusts me to start the project with just a quick verbal run-through of the scripts. These photo-real frames take more time that drawing out of my head, with a good deal time spent at the beginning of the project gathering reference and composing rough photo collages. I then make my sketches and illustrate any missing parts to the images. Colin sometimes asks for a few tweaks to the drawings, then I go to the finished color.
In the case of this storyboard “Tomorrow Void,” Colin asked for the storyboard frames to be very worked out. He has found that he often likes my interpretation of the script more than that of the director. The more frames that I add to the storyboard, the closer the finished commercial comes to his vision.
